Mr. Mobley Wants You!
Mr. David Mobley, former Desert Trails Elementary School principal, is the new principal at
West Creek Elementary School and is looking forward to seeing many of his
former Desert Trails students at their new West Creek campus!
The first day of school at West Creek Elementary is August 14th, 2013.
Former Desert Trails Elementary students that attend West Creek Elementary
School will have free bus transportation provided to and from the West Creek campus.
Dear Desert Trails Elementary School Families,
I hope you are having a wonderful summer with your families! I'm writing to you today to clarify and explain the process for your Child or children as we plan ahead for this school year. | look forward to us collaborating and striving together to make sure that every child has a successful school experience. Part of this success will be your ability to exercise choice in the school and programs that your child will participate in.
This year we would like to offer your child the following four (4) options for enrollment in one of our district schools:
1. WEST CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL -
Our Governing Board recently approved the Desert Trails boundary to be included within the West Creek Elementary School boundary. West Creek Elementary is a large and newer campus that will offer your child a new home school and an exciting opportunity to continue their education. Transportation will be provided to all children that attend West Creek Elementary. Bus routes within the Desert Trails neighborhood will be established to take students to and from school free of charge.
2. INTRA-DISTRICT TRANSFER REQUESTS -
Parents will have the option to seek open enrollment in any of our other schools within our district boundary. Parents simply need to obtain an intra-district transfer form from the Central Enrollment Center at the District Office (open throughout summer) or from one of any of our school offices after July 29th, 2013. lf you choose this option, you will need to fill out the intra-district transfer form and submit it to the school office where you wish for your child to attend. This option does not include transportation.
In other words, if you choose this option then you assume responsibility for transporting your child to your school of choice. This is consistent with our present policy where if a parent chooses to send their child to a school that is not their home school, then transportation is their responsibility. In addition, in some instances such as with students with special needs (SDC, etc), certain district programs only exist at certain school sites. If this is the case, you will be contacted by a representative from the District Office to explain your options.
3. APPLICATION TO GEORGE PERFORMING ARTS MAGNET SCHOOL -
If you wish to send your child to George Magnet School you are requested to follow the application process and procedures that are used uniformly across the district for all students. Please visit or contact George Magnet School on availability of spaces in their classrooms and program. If classes are already full, in some instances, you may be able to be placed on a Waiting list. Please keep in mind that George Magnet has admissions criteria and a different admissions process than our other schools. This option does not include transportation.
4. MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR 6th GRADE STUDENTS -
Desert Trails 6”" grade students typically attend Columbia International Science, Math and Technology Magnet School as their boundary school for 7th and 8th grades. Transportation to Columbia is provided. Parents who wish for their child to attend another school can do so through the intra-district transfer process outlined in #2 above. Options include Mesa Linda Middle School, Theodore Vick Elementary AVID program, and Donald F. Bradach AVID program. Space may be limited in these alternative programs so parents need to complete intra-district transfers for their child to participate. This option does not include transportation.
It is my genuine wish that we can accommodate your choice for the best educational option for your child. l look forward to collaborating with you as we move forward with an exciting opportunity for change and progress as an equal partner with you in your child's educational success.
